Sunday Recap

Teams, players and spectators packed the stands at Royal Athletic Park to watch the Open, Mixed and Women’s Championships. The red shirts of the volunteers could be seen all over the venue. Like the players, the volunteers showed an amazing amount of dedication and passion. The hard work of the volunteers made CUC2012 a massive success not only for ultimate in Victoria, but for Canadian ultimate as well. Thank you CUC2012 volunteers!

General Strike and Furious George battled it out in a fantastic game with General Strike leading most of the game. Huge cheering battles fed both teams energy and hype. With a game point for General Strike, Furious put all they had into their game and went on to score three points in a row to take a massive win. Congratulations to Vancouver’s Furious George, and to MVP Kevin Underhill!

At noon, Toronto’s Union took on Odysee of Montreal in a great battle in the hopes of taking the Mixed title. While Union put on some strong zone on D, they couldn’t compete with Odysee’s big hucks and fast cuts. Congratulations to Odysee!

In the final game of the day and of CUC2012, the women from Traffic met with QUB in a great fast-paced game. While QUB made some great plays, Traffic took the lead with their sticky handling, big layouts and nice end zone cuts. Congratulations to yet another Vancouver team, Traffic, on taking the Gold in CUC2012!

Friday Recap

At just past the half-way point of CUC 2012, it’s becoming obvious how much talent we have in Canadian Ultimate.

The speed and handling skills of the Juniors’ is testament to both the popularity of the sport as well as to experienced coaches.

Some say women play more aggressively, others question that statement… either way Canadian Women play and want the win just as bad as anyone else!

As for the Masters, what can we say? Their experience (much of it on the international level) and their skills are not to be contended with. It’s a great bracket to be in and watch – the competition is really high!

Teams of talented men and women = fantastic ultimate! The Mixed teams are killing it out there. Their teams are packed with multiple O and D lines, making each game fresh, entertaining and at times, hugely dramatic!

The Open bracket is always popular for spectators. There’s no question the amount of training and determination coming from these guys. The D’s are massive, the sky’s are insane and the layouts… well, who doesn’t like to watch superman fly?
